Infiniti is “redefining its place” in the luxury market, and it’s using models like the QX65 to do it.
While long-established names in the luxury market have pretty well defined their stance and approach against the competition, Infiniti has long been a bit out there in the ether. Do you focus on a serious sports car identity, do you build a wide range of luxurious SUVs, or do you go toward a fully electric lineup? It’s tried a little bit of everything over the years, and the resulting sales figures showed a diminishing customer base that no longer saw a compelling draw to Nissan’s luxury marque. Infiniti aims to change that, though, as it continues revamping its lineup as part of what it calls an “ongoing product renaissance”. Enter the new coupe-like QX65.
Thanks to the Monograph concept, we already have a solid idea what the production-spec QX65 teased above will look like. That is, a new “Artistry in Motion” design language meant to show a far bolder and more confident stance toward a series of luxury SUVs meant to strike at the heart of the brand’s European, Asian and American competition. The coupe-like design most directly pitches the QX65 against the BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and, to some extent, the Audi Q8 as well as the Genesis GV80 Coupe. In wider circles, adding this option for the lineup may improve Infiniti’s odds against Lexus, Cadillac and Lincoln too — at least, that’s the idea.
Fundamentally, the 2027 Infiniti QX65 shares a platform and underpinnings with the three-row QX60 SUV. Apart from the sleeker roofline, we expect this new variant to pack the same 2.0-liter turbocharged powertrain. In the QX65’s sibling, that means 268 horsepower and 286 lb-ft of torque, mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Official specs are forthcoming along with the production model’s styling debut, but it isn’t likely Infiniti will split the QX60/QX65 much, if at all, on the core mechanical bits.
The new QX65 will obviously join the QX60 in the lineup, as well as the larger QX80, which more or less kickstarted this latest product push toward a bolder, more distinct brand identity. 2025’s sales numbers look more promising than other recent years on how successful the move’s been so far. QX80 sales picked up a whopping 31% year-over-year, while QX60 sales also picked up 10%. Will the QX65 also see strong sales momentum? We’ll have to wait and see.
Part of the puzzle depends on where the 2027 Infiniti QX65 will land on price. We don’t have that information yet, either, but conventional wisdom suggests it will cost a little more than the QX60’s $51,590 starting price. Somewhere in the mid-$50,000s is likely, though we will have more details on March 26. Beyond the premiere date, the QX65 will make its first public appearance during the New York Auto Show, between April 3 and April 12.
